Anathema

Anathema is the name of a English band Liverpool City, which - together with Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride - helped develop the doomdeath metal. From their third album, Eternity, Anathema gradually moved away from the scene and even doom metal, currently being considered in a rock band atmosphere.

Formed in the summer of 1990 in Liverpool (UK) by Daniel Cavanagh, the band began with the name of Pagan Angel with Darren White (vocals), Daniel Cavanagh (guitar), Vincent Cavanagh (guitar), Jamie Cavanagh (bass ) and John Douglas (drums). In November 1990 they released their first demo An Illiad Of Woes MA Studios recorded in a style that closely linked to the black metal with very guttural voices and distorted guitars. Later the band's name changed to Anathema, and began to gain greater acceptance and publicity in part thanks to appearances with bands like Boltho Thrower and Paradise Lost.

same attention they were receiving, began the creative process for his second All Faith Is Lost demo was recorded in July 1991 also at MA Studios. This demo consisted of four items, which were much slower than their first demo songs, taking elements of the then popular black metal, but using them in a side much more introspective and nostalgic. Once launched the demo, it received rave reviews by the media, and even attracted the attention of Swiss Witchhunter Records label that released the single They Die consisting of two well-known songs, and They Die Crestfallen. The produced only 1,000 copies were sold quickly. Before the release of this demo, Jamie left the band decided to pursue their studies. To fill the gap left by Jamie, Daniel was offered the job to Duncan Patterson, who after a test trial was formally accepted.

The growing popularity attracted the attention of Peaceville Records, who offered to participate in a future band compilation album that was to launch the label. The song was included on disc Lovelorn Rhapsody, recorded in Academy Studios. The compilation album called Peaceville's Compilation "Volume 4" was released in October 1992. The compilation was well received and the song Anathema, resulting in a contract with Peaceville Records for four more albums. First records

In the summer of 1992 the band entered Academy Studios decided to record their first album. However, part of the recorded material in these sessions were part of his first release, the EP titled The Crestfallen launched in November 1992. The remaining material became Serenades released their debut album in February 1993, whose style was quite different from his first demos to introduce rhythms much slower and cleaner guitars in its distortion that provided a much more negative, depressive, and even poetic. The female voices have included also provided some melodic beauty in the dark sadness surrounding the disc. Serenades was received with great acclaim, being declared "Record of the Month" by the magazine Metal Hammer, and even MTV, largely thanks to the promotional video for Sweet Tears.

After the release of Serenades, Anathema spent some time giving concerts, first in England, and then for the first time abroad in countries like Holland, Belgium, Ireland, Germany (together Cradle of Filth and At The Gates), Austria, Switzerland, Romania and Brazil.

In May 1994, Pentecost III EP recorded at Academy Studios. Unfortunately problems with the label (which at that time had just been appropriated by Music For Nations) resulted in a delay of the launch of the demo that finally saw the light in May 1995. Just before launching Pentecost III, vocalist Darren White left the band due to creative differences, because the band thought that Darren's voice does not fit into the new style that the band was growing. Darren first founded his own band, The Blood Divine, then his current band Serotonal. In this new scenario, the band decided that guitarist Vincent Cavanagh should take over the vocals. This new training debut in a tour of the UK accompanying Cathedral. Evolution

A year later the band released The Silent Enigma, a record that represents a turning point in his career. The album features vocal style changes and introduces various elements of gothic atmosphere. Many fans of the original style of the band consider this album as the beginning of the fall of Anathema, while many others believe that the best time of the band start with this album.

in 1996 is the launch of Eternity, which includes a more atmospheric sound and continues the transition to clean vocals, which Judgement was subsequently consolidated.

The second member would be leaving the band drummer John Douglas in the summer of 1997, who would be replaced by former drummer of Solstice - Shaun Taylor-Steels - who later participate in My Dying Bride.
Daniel Cavanagh Daniel Cavanagh

Alternative 4 was released in 1998. During this time, the band experienced many changes in his training. Bassist Duncan Patterson was replaced by Dave Pybus of Dreambreed due to musical differences. Martin Powell (who was in charge of keyboards and violin for My Dying Bride a while ago) also joined the band. Finally, John Douglas assumes the role of drummer a second time.

In June 1999, the album Judgement was released. This album marks the complete withdrawal of Anathema's doom metal scene, with emphasis on slow and experimental issues. This new sound has been compared to bands like Pink Floyd, Jeff Buckley and Radiohead.

During the same year Martin Powell switched positions with Cradle of Filth keyboardist Les Smith, who became an integral member of Anathema.

A time before the release of A Fine Day to Exit, Dave Pybus announced his departure from the band and went on to Cradle of Filth, being temporarily replaced by George Roberts, and subsequently by Jamie Cavanagh.

In March 2002, Daniel Cavanagh announced his departure from Anathema, joining Duncan Patterson's band, Antimatter. However, he rejoined Anathema in 2003 for the release of A Natural Disaster. Since then, the sound of Anathema has become more atmospheric and progressive characteristics, as shown on album tracks like Flying and Violence.

Due to the closure of the label Music for Nations after its purchase by Sony BMG, Anathema is currently without label. During his search for a new record label, the band has released two new songs on the Internet: Everything and A Simple Mistake, which can be downloaded by a voluntary donation. Despite the absence of a stamp to support them, the band toured Latin America and is on a new European tour, while guitarist Danny Cavanagh also performs solo acoustic concerts.

Just as they launched their last two issues, in mid-November 2007 Angels Walk Among Us published on its website.

Draconian

Draconian is a doom metal band with gothic metal influences from Sweden. Draconian
The onset can be traced to May 1994, when Johan Ericson (drums, vocals), Andy Hindenäs (guitars) and Jesper Stolpe (bass, vocals) joined forces as KERBEROS, a set of Doom Melodic Metal with influences of Black Metal. Seven months later, vocalist and poet Anders Jacobsson joined the band, which then changed its name to what it is today.

During the coming months, Draconian working on new material that found its way to their first demo recorded in Studio Källgren on October 27, 1995, exactly a week after its live debut. With the help of Jessica Eriksson (flute, vocals), Susanne Arvidsson (vocals, keyboard) and Andreas Haag (responsible for the introduction of My Nemesis) Shades of a Lost Moon was created. However, it was not made public until February of 1996, as Magnus "Bergis" Bergström (guitars), old friend of the band joins Draconian. Shades of a Lost Moon received excellent reviews worldwide, prompting interest from several record labels. In late January 1997, Draconian recorded their second demo, In Glorious Victory. Unfortunately, the band quickly grew discontent with the audio quality of the recording and decided not to release it. The months that followed were less productive for Draconian, while waiting for two of its members completed their military service. However, essays and composing new songs were still a part of the agenda. For the new material the band included keyboardist Andreas Karlsson, taking the place of Susanne Arvidsson, who is leaving the band personal reasons.

Draconian In 1998 and 1999 went to the stage. The positive feedback convinced them it was time to return to study. Early in August 1999, entered the studio to record Ruling The Closed Eyes of Paradise, an album that dealt with the mystical dark theme of Lucifer and his fallen angels, the true face of God and the coming battle. In it, Susanne Arvidsson made guest vocal appearances. Unfortunately, the recording, suffering from a bad production, was not up to high expectations. The band thus opted for a little more polish before its official release, as well as during the months of May and June 2000, Andreas Karlsson, Anders Jacobsson and Johan Ericson were dedicated to improving the quality of the demo, new songs were included, as well as effects that had erroneously been left out in the study. The effort paid after launching the demo. Draconian

now concentrated on creating something new. Their sound became slower, darker and more similar to Doom. The material that ensued led them in a new direction. His demo of only two songs, Frozen Features was made available for download on the Internet, as in CD format. Shortly after recording Frozen Features, Andy Hindenäs took a sabbatical. He was replaced by Johan, who left Jerry Torstensson responsibility of the battery. A final demo was recorded in the summer of 2002 featuring the vocal talents of Lisa Johansson for the last time, the ability to Jesper Stolpe on bass, who opted to leave the band to pursue other ventures. Stolpe was replaced by longtime friend and supporter, Thomas Jäger. Dark Oceans We Cry was the work that made known to the band, the demo received outstanding reviews and the band signed a long-awaited Rrecords Napalm. Draconian

recorded their debut album, Where Lovers Mourn in Studio Mega under the supervision of Chris Silver (ex Sundown and Cemetery member) in July 2003 under the direction of Pelle Saether, Draconian entered Studio Underground in Västerås to record Arcane Rain Fell in 2005.

Later that same year Magnus Bergström decided to take a sabbatical due to labor issues. This left a seat empty for Daniel Arvidsson, an old friend of the band and also the brain behind Scorched (Black Metal). The band also needed a bass player since Jesper Stolpe had recently left. During this time it went through another transition, for personal reasons, keyboardist Andreas Karlsson felt he could not risk their mental health to go on longer tours with the band to participate in future concerts. The band then needed a keyboardist and Sanne Carlsson took place to cover the absence of Karlsson.

In early 2006, Draconian finally found his bassist, Fredrik Johansson joined the band. Draconian began working on their third release, but due to countless requests from fans, it was decided to first release an album with remakes of songs from their first demo The Closed Eyes of Paradise. The Burning Halo would also include three new tracks and two covers. Plagued by numerous problems through the stages of production, the album was delayed and finally completed in June.

Produced by Andreas Karlsson and Johan Ericson, and mixed in Anders Ljudbild by Anders Bergström, The Burning Halo is a majestic blend of the two previous releases of Draconian, showing that they are masters of Doom Metal Swedish, becoming one of the greatest exponents of the scene.

Heavy guitars and intense growl with female vocals, melancholic romantic piano arrangements. Draconian immaculately links these elements to create a perfect symbiosis of Gothic Metal and Doom. Former members
